My future in-laws have visited Crisp Point for many many years. They used to own some property on a small lake about 15 miles from the lighthouse. Since the first time I saw the lighthouse I have been obsessed, I enjoy visiting several times a year while driving or snowmobiling, I think it is wonderful that it is being restored for many to enjoy in the future.

I had the pleasure of visiting Crisp Point Light for the first time on Tuesday Oct. 1, 2000. It was a beautiful fall day and I was able to meet Don Ross and another gentleman who I did not catch his but he was kind enough to give me a county map with directions to Grand Marias and also a woman from Ohio who was camping at Deer Park with her family. They were all putting mulch around some of the new shrubs. Everything looked beautiful! What a great job everyone was doing. I introduced myself to Don as the only member from New York state and enjoyed meeting him and talking with him. I hope to get back next year and see some more of the beautiful UP, it is my favorite place to travel. Thanks to everyone involved for their efforts to save this historic light!

My brothers and I took our mother to the light house on 10/8/00. She has been a supporter for the trees that have been planted on the grounds. I wanted her to see the fine job that has been done with donation money. One concern we shared was we hoped that someone plans on blocking off access to the trees that have been planted during the winter. I am a snowmobiler and I could see people of this sport wanting to see the lighthouse in the winter, possibly driving over the trees and they might not even know it? If you need some help with placing barriers please e-mail me. We would love to help put them up to protect the trees during the winter. Please let us know if you need help.

I have never seen or heard of a place so serene. The cold powerful waves of the great Superior crashing against the shore at the base of this isolated lighthouse. The sun had just fallen into horizon leaving a haze of colors as a backdrop when I arrived September 30, 2000. I have only recently become interested in lighthouses and while visiting Whitefish Point, I ran across your small brochure. Contrary to the complaints that I have read about the trek into the light, I feel the trip only adds to the splendor of this great place. I would truly love to do my part in helping with your restoration efforts. Please e-mail me and let me know how I can get personally involved. I will be clicking over to join the society in order to do my part that way. Thank you

My boyfriend and I travel to the UP every August for four-wheeling fun in the jeep. In 1999, we came across an isolated area with a lighthouse that just took my breath away. We arrived in time to see the sunset and have beautiful pictures forever. We heard a constant hammering sound from the lighthouse and could see from afar that people were inside the lighthouse. The locals explained the "restoration" project. I recently viewed your web site for the first time. A great web site! I can't wait to visit the lighthouse again. I plan to become a member and help as much as possible.

I LIKE THE FACT THAT THERE IS A SOCIETY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE LIGHTHOUSE. BUT HALF OF THE FUN OF IT, WAS TRYING TO FIND IT EVERY YEAR. I'VE BEEN GOING TO THE LIGHTHOUSE FOR 25 YEARS NOW, AND WAS SO DISAPPOINTED TO SEE THE WHITEFISH POINT LIGHTHOUSE, AND THE TAQUAMENON FALLS BECOME SO COMMERCIAL. THE CRISP POINT LIGHTHOUSE AREA WAS ONE OF THE LAST BASTIONS OF UNDISTURED MICHIGAN WILDERNESS. WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE IT STAY THAT WAY. PART OF THE CHALLENGE WAS THE LAST QUARTER MILE WALK TO THE LIGHTHOUSE ALSO. I NOW SEE THAT YOU CAN DRIVE RIGHT UP TO IT. HOPE IT DOESN'T BECOME THE TURKEY HILL/7/11 TYPE ATMOSPHERE THAT THE WHITEFISH POINT LIGHT HAS BECOME. IT USED TO BE A WILDERNESS. NOW, WHEN I LEAVE THE CITY, AND GO TO THE TAQUAMENON FALLS OR WHITEFISH POINT, I FEEL LIKE I'M STILL IN THE CITY. TOO TOO COMMERCIAL. YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERYTHING AT WHITEFISH POINT EXCEPT FOR THE VIEW, AND THEY HAVE PUT A BREWERY PUB/RESTAURANT AT THE UPPER FALLS. PLEASE DON'T LET CRISP POINT BECOME LIKE THIS. I KNOW OF A FEW LAST PLACES OF BEAUTIFUL MICHIGAN WILDERNESS, BUT I'M NOT TELLING ANYONE. THEY'LL FIND IT AND TURN IT INTO THE K-MART PARKING LOT. SAVE THE LIGHTHOUSE? YES!!! HOW ABOUT WE SAVE THE WILDERNESS OF IT TOO!!! PLEASE!!!

Found lighthouse in 1995-96 when part of house was still there. Plan to visit again this July 22. I hear it is alittle easier to get there than it used to be.

We were there in June and finally got to see the light. I signed your book there and you sent us your wonderful newsletter. The lighthouse looks beautiful and like I said I cried to have finally gotten there and then to see everything that had been done to restore it so far. It is beautiful. Keep up the great work. Save the Lights!!!!!!

Only neg, my 12/99 newsletter was received in June. I can't fully express the feeling I get while visiting CPLH other than to say "It is just awesome". Please notify me earlier of events happening so that I may put them in my schedule and I look forward to seeing my name on the sponser list for the next newsletter. "Andi" Duffy

I love your page...I have always heard and read about Crisp Point. This area of the UP has always been of much interest to me. Maybe you folks can help me. I have been trying to get to the Vermillion Life Saving Station for years now and have never been able to get past the chain link fence. I am very interested in Mich's maritime history, and would love to see (if anything) what hapened to it. I heard Lake Superior Univerisity bought the land it sits on, and are fixing up the old bldg.s, and going to use them for research. Do they have tours, anything?? Thanks for reading my plea, and continue your great work on Crisp Point.

We have visited in the Upper Penninsula for many years and have had the opportunity to drive out to Crisp Point Light several times (when a 4-wheel drive was available). This is my all time favorite lighthouse. I would like to know more about your preservation of the light--the last time we were there, the small building was still standing.

Our family was at the light on April 29th. We had a four wheel drive vehicle, but probably wouldn't have needed it. The road was fine all the way until the last 1/4 mile, there was a little snow and a large puddle. The day was great, the sun was shining, the sky was very clear, but it was chilly anywhere near the water. Good thing we brought our winter coats and mittens! The water level looked low, and you can see sand is blowing around. The light looks great, it is so bright white now! We had a nice picnic with Don and Nellie Ross, and climbed the tower. What a great view!

Kelly, myself and our German Shepard, Stuka, visited the lighthouse on 4-08-00. Much improved since the last time we visited in summer '97. There is still a lot of snow near the lakeshore. Our two-wheel drive pickup only took us to within about a mile of the lighthouse. It will be another 3-4 weeks before the snow melts.

You have a very nice web site. It is obvious that a lot of effort and thought have been and continue to be put into it. Those organizations that plan to put a web site together for their own lighthouse would be wise to observe how you have done it here. I couldn't wait to get home to check it out, I think it will become my new favorite site. The pictures are great and I will definitly use your directions to get to Crisp Point.

We went out to Crisp Point on the morning of July 3rd 1998, driving a still-decorated white Explorer which we rented for our honeymoon trip to the UP (married June 27th). Got the map/brochure from Curley's Lakeview hotel countertop in Paradise, and went out on a whim. The road was very rough, and we tested the Explorer's 4WD several times. We came upon another couple stuck in deep sand and stopped to help. So did a pair of dune-buggys, filled with big macho guys. They impressed their ladies (us too) by LIFTING that car right out of the sand. We went on to the Point, parking at the designated place (this was before the parking area was created). The weather was wonderful, and after a long-ish walk we admired the lake, the lighthouse and its surrounds. The dune-buggys motored right onto the beach, which they probably shouldn't have, but once there they were nice enough, and they even took our picture a couple times. Our favorite photo of the lighthouse is almost the same as your web-site view, with the weathered paint and the little bush at the base. We relaxed for an hour, then 4-wheeled out and headed for Sault Ste Marie's Lockview Inn, our 4th of July hotel. We plan to retrace our honeymoon route in a couple of years. The UP is a wild and beautiful place! - VZ
